An article on onion and tomato price hike

Onion vs Tomato- which is highly valuable ?

The recent price hike of the two vegetables has made everyone miserable in the country. Tomato, potato, onions, ginger are some of the basic vegetables whose absence haunts an Indian’s meal.

Supply disruptions occurred as a result of heavy rainfall in the key producing regions hiked the tomato price. Unseasonal rainfalls that have decreased the shelf life of stored onions led to the price hike of onions. This year the hike is unusual.

In this price hike scenario Onion always played the major role and then tomato turned everyone’s attention. Tomato prices hiked up to Rs 250 per kilogram and then fell down to Rs 40 per kilogram. Big onion is similar to tomato whose price went beyond 6 times than its usual price and it fell down. The price of small onions has begin to rise.

A statement on tomato price hike,

“If you stop consuming tomatoes the price will automatically fall”

from a prominent member of the ruling party given to the public reminds of our financial minister’s statement on onion price hike in the older days

“I don’t consume onions so I am not worried about that”.

The steady rise of price in onions has put the government to face criticisms from the public. Government has imposed 40% export tax on onions and is planning to sell them at subsidized rates.

Opposing parties are provoking the farmers to vote against the ruling party.

The rise in price have even made some farmers to the change the crop they cultivate. Inspite of these two commodities there is also a general price hike in commodities like wheat, Rice etc.

The price hike of the vegetables would push people to make new recipes without their addition. People would rather choose gold instead of tomato and onion to make curries.
